Being an open mall unit with very few walls and no ceiling to speak of, made the task of the redesign a lot more complicated. The problem with all mall units is to give the area its own identity whilst being hindered by stark mall lighting and open spaces barely identified by lightweight balustrades and changing floor finishes.

To overcome this, we wanted to enclose the space with a solid defined structure that would create a real focal point from the mall side and be instantly recognised as Café Giardino. Adding height, but being careful not to create bulk that would block sight lines through the mall for tenants and anchor stores, was also important. This has been achieved with the stunning low fin detailed wall and large, delicate, over table arced lights.

Having formed the space, it was important to create a more modern, comfortable, relaxing and inviting style. Considerable time has been spent not only on the visual appearance, but also the mechanics of the counter and front of house areas to provide a design that not only looks good, but works to its optimum potential.
